Rwanda Chapel

Program: Cultural (YAC- Young Architects Competition)

This chapel is for the people of Rukomo, Rwanda. Moving through space in a natural light gradient from dark to light, its users are able to admire local materials in the chapel’s design: fired bricks all throughout, stone, gravel flooring, and coffee-stained furniture. The porous enclosure encourages everyone to cross paths, have a conversation and explore all areas of the chapel, including the atrium and courtyard. It is a place of gathering and meditation, a space for both the community and the self to transition into a peaceful place of reflect.

Along with her partner Daisy Ramli, Selma submitted her participation to the Young Architects Competition.
